Each of my projects are deeply personal to me, but designing showhouse spaces are the chance to dream a little bit, be daring, and different. I was thrilled when Woodard Furniture asked me to collaborate with them for The Traditional Home: Hamptons Designer Showhouse, giving me free reign to create anything I could come up with! In collaboration with my other wonderful sponsors Pennoyer Newman, Sunbrella, Bevolo, Charlotte Moss’s Gardens, Replacements, Viva Terra and Made Goods, my vision came to life. I was inspired by the effortlessly elegant seaside beach resorts dotting the Italian and French Riviera with their colorful umbrellas and dining areas just becoming you to stop and enjoy a long leisurely lunch, have a cocktail and enjoy the afternoon without a care in the world. I love the New England classic Americana feel of the Hamptons and wanted to focus on the casual weekend lifestyle that is adored universally. I always try to balance time honored traditions in a current and modern way. I do this by mixing various styles to create an outdoor living space that is as comfortable as it is aesthetically pleasing with room for a variety of activities. I wanted to create a space that was as useful for one person as it is for a party full of people! I envisioned a space for resting and relaxation, socializing and entertaining, gardening, reading a great book laying on the sofa under the umbrella canopy or simply forgetting it all.
Drawing inspiration from vintage beach scenes by one of my favorite photographers Slim Aarons, I decided on a whimsical marine blue and red color palette that is timeless with a twist.
What can I say, I’m very hands on with my work. I can tell if something is out of place from a mile away! Here I am putting together this dining scene featuring plates with intricate blue detailing paired with playful hippie chic napkins, and a gorgeous floral centerpiece. The Delphin dining chairs in Chinese red and custom umbrellas in Sunbrella mineral blue and canvas white are courtesy of Woodard Furniture.
After a long day’s work, everyone deserves a break. We chose the beautiful Le Bilboquet overlooking Sag Harbour. Easy to forget you’re not in heaven with a view like this and a great bottle of wine!
I want to thank Woodard Furniture for their sponsorship of this space and Danielle Rollins for Woodard, as well as Pennoyer Newman, Sunbrella, Bevolo, Charlotte Moss’s Gardens, Replacements, Viva Terra, and Made Goods.
I hope you enjoyed this behind-the-scenes look of my Hampton Designer Showhouse space. I want to thank each of my sponsors for their time and dedication to this project. So long, Southampton!
