Millicent Rogers and Our Inspired Looks!

Nobody knew how to live the high life like Millicent Rogers. Born into luxury, she grew up in New York where her grandfather, H.H. Rogers, was the co-founder with John D.Rockefeller of the Standard Oil Trust. She lived in a whirl of beautiful homes, European vacations, exquisite clothing and handsome men. Rogers led a glittering life from her days as a young girl afflicted with rheumatic fever to her debutante debut and her Taos finale. As a rebellious icon of the age, she eloped with a penniless baron, danced tangos in European nightclubs, divorced with a penniless baron, danced tangos in European nightclubs, divorced, remarried and romanced, among others, Clark Gable. She retreated to Taos, New Mexico to mend her broken heart following the end of the failed love affair, and wholeheartedly embraced and popularized Southwestern style her romantic conquests, though, paled in comparison to her triumph in the fashion world. Distinctive for her looks and her fashionable style, she electrified the fashionistas by becoming the muse to designer Charles James, and appearing in numerous publications including Vogue and Harper’s Bazaar. Beyond being photogenic and having a figure for couture, Millicent had a very exacting way of combining fashion elements with an engaging flair and an artist eye. Her confidence and sense of style, along with her natural curiosity and intrigue set her apart from other women, Millicent Rogers enters the pantheon of great American women whom like Diana Vreeland and Babe Paley, put their distinctive stamp on American Style.

I've pulled together some looks inspired by Millicent, including our very own skirt named after her! Keep reading to see the looks!

Matching Seersucker Elsie

Our Millicent Skirt gives a slim profile through the hip but keeps dramatic flare throughout the skirt! Made in an incredible limited edition silk seersucker this is a wonderful dress up or dress down warm weather day to night kind of piece which we just adore.

Growing up in Texas I had a strong appreciation for Southwestern style and Native American handcrafts. I would really love to go to the Millicent Rogers Museum of the Southwest to see the nearly 1000 pieces of jewelry but also to view the vast collection of textiles and pottery.

Put it with the caramel skirt from Chloe and layered with loads of jewelry it would be a very in the Millicent Rogers mood look!

A few of my favorite online sources for authentic native American jewelry that has a wide selection of handcrafted sterling silver and turquoise squash blossom necklaces and concho belts. I have purchased other items from auctions and have found good pieces on ebay and etsy, too.

This Ralph Lauren Tabatha Dress would look beautiful paired with layers and layers of silver jewelry and a big belt.

While some of the concho belts can be thousands of dollars, American Eagle has a nice one that gives the look for less.

A few more outfits that would be perfect to complete the Southwestern look...

Chloe Rony Embellished Leather Slides

Gucci Pleated Rhombus-Logo Metallic Woven Tea-Length Skirt

I like this Gucci Skirt because the texture and colors remind me of a Southwestern fabric. I would pair this with a big cocho belt and slim fitting shirt with a pair of great heels.

Diane Van Furstenberg Gia Scarf Hem Dress

I liked the Gia Scarf Hem dress from Diane Von Furstenberg but would prefer to wear this more casually belted with a cocho belt and with a flat luggage color sandal, dangly turquoise earrings and an armful of stacked Native American bracelets.
